Kitchen sink area inserts
Background
In a kitchen the dishwasher, pipes and couplings cause the most damage. Nowadays the dishwasher area is always moisture-sealed with a dishwasher underlay. However, 45% of this damage is due to the connections, which are partly installed in the adjoining cupboard – the cupboard under the sink unit.
Most other pipes, taps, couplings, water seals and plumbing in the kitchen are also found in this cupboard, increasing dramatically the risk of leakage. The level of risk is increased further by the fact that all installations may be hidden behind a board and various rubbish containers. It comes as no surprise that 15 – 20% of all water damage occurs in a sink unit.
Usage
The sink area insert, from AB Foolproof Damage Prevention, is placed onto the floor in the cupboard beneath the sink in order to make the cupboard waterproof. Leaks can collect under the sink unit and be detected there or on the floor in front of the sink unit. That way the leak can be discovered and sealed before any damage occurs.
Likewise, the insert can be used in cupboards with built-in(!) table top dishwashers or to improve the appearance of the bottom of the cupboards where cleaning utensils and saucepans are stored.
Product information
The plastic is a very strong, pliable, easy to work and durable grey PP (polypropylene), which of course is non-toxic, recyclable and has passed product approval. The product is an excellent choice when installing a new kitchen but when waterproofing the kitchen sink cupboard which has already been installed.
When installing, a lot of time can be saved if the work flow procedure and installation tips are followed. These can be found under the heading Download our brochures.
Furthermore, under normal circumstances, this method is safer as there are no joints, fissures or welded seams. The only sealing needed is around the pipe lead-through.
With the fitting comes a package containing two pins with locking washers and two types of special tape for sealing vents that may appear and for attaching the fitting to the floor. Easy-to-follow, instructive assembly instructions are also included.
The end result
This particular kitchen sink insert is a rather new product but has already been installed in a few thousand kitchens. House-owners appreciate the protection against water leakage, and are also pleased with the resulting good looking sink cupboard and its bottom surface that is durable and easy to keep clean.
When the recess in the rear is covered up the cupboard becomes more spacious, something much appreciated in these times of waste disposal
