When an accidents occurs
Following standard procedure, the policy-holder always has to pay the excess. In addition, you also have to pay part of the costs for new fittings if the old ones have been in place for a number of years. This is called depreciation. The general rule is that the older the fittings, the more the policy-holder has to pay. Depending on the extent of the damage, a great deal of inconvenience may also have to be endured, living in a makeshift house or without any floorboards and noisy fans droning.
Insurance companies have different terms and conditions for compensating water damage. Ask your company which rules apply.
