Press release – waterproof kitchens

Water damage costs Sweden approximately 100 million SEK per week. Approximately 23% of damage occurs in the kitchen. This means that leaks amounting to 3.3 million SEK occur in Swedish kitchens every day, which leads to enormous expenses for the policy-holders.

These in part unnecessary costs are now being reduced with the help of imposed installation regulations, higher standards and probably increased insurance premiums. A new construction norm in Sweden, which will come into effect in May 2006 at the earliest, is therefore being prepared.

The water installations in the kitchen are located almost exclusively in and around the kitchen sink unit. A leak is almost impossible to detect. Water leakage travel to the bottom of your property, is then absorbed by fittings and building material and is only seen when the construction has been saturated. That is why the new building norm will, among other things, require a sealed layer in and under the kitchen sink cupboard and under fridges and freezers. Another requirement is that possible leakage water be quickly led forward from hidden surfaces.

”Waterproof kitchens”- The concept is completely in line with the requirements of the new construction norm and insurance companies. By combining the required kitchen sink inserts, sleeve couplings and fridge/freezer underlay, the risk of damp, mould and water damage in the kitchen can be minimized in a simple manner.

The patented insert is placed in the bottom of the kitchen sink cupboard. It can be adjusted to new and existing kitchens. Thereafter, the area around the pipe is sealed and then sleeve couplings are mounted to protect the seals. Water leakage, if any, is collected on the insert and can be detected there or in front of the cupboard. Protection and prevention in one. In addition, you get a nice and clean sink cupboard with a smooth, maintenance free insert, which is very easy to keep clean.

The dishwasher underlay collects and quickly leads water leakage to the front of the machine. This is a standard product today, which is put in place when a dishwasher is installed. Another important reason for using the special fridge/freezer underlay, is to collect defrosted ice and condensation since these appliances cause more and more damage.

A reasonably handy person can install these products without assistance.

The products come highly recommended by insurance companies and are included in the ”Waterproof kitchen” concept. They are marketed by a large number of department stores and flooring and plumbing outlets.
