Sleeve couplings and pipe sealing
Background
Pipes carry water effectively on both the inside and outside. By sealing the pipes where they lead down into the floor beams, leaks can be led onto the floor where the leak can be detected in good time, as with wet room procedure. Pipes and hose piping in the kitchen also lead down into the floor, but there is seldom a floor drain or waterproof flooring there. Instead there is a hole around the piping right down through the floor beams where leakage or condensation can drip or run without being detected.
Product information
Sleeve couplings from Stosett AB are manufactured in a number of different sizes to suit the many plumbing dimensions on the market. The sleeve coupling package contains a sleeve coupling, sealing tape and easy-to-follow assembly instructions. The plastic used is PET (PolytheneTerephthalate), which means it is environmentally friendly, durable, non-toxic and recyclable.
The choice of sealing material is extremely important. It has to bond perfectly to a variety of surfaces including metal, painted or enamelled surfaces, different kinds of wood board and greasy plastic surfaces etc. The material must not shrink or dry out but should remain pliable and elastic for many years. The butyl rubber bands, which come with the sleeve couplings, possess these qualities.
End result
When the sealing is complete, the sleeve coupling is fastened around the piping in order to protect the butyl rubber against wear and tear. Instead of a hole around the piping a sealed and clean ”cross-section” between the floor and the piping is obtained. Leaks and condensation which run along the pipes will from now on form a small pool where the pipe enters the floor. Furthermore, the seals and sleeve couplings prevent the circulation of radium gases and keep out vermin.

If a sleeve coupling of the right size cannot be found, we recommend a special sealing tape. Please contact AB FOOLPROOF for further information.
